Prof Dr Max Welling

Max Welling is the full professor of Machine Learning at the University of Amsterdam; he is one of the world’s leading authorities on machine learning, in particular in the field of “deep learning”. He also a fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
Dr Sander Bohte

Sander Bohte is a senior researcher at CWI. He develops deep learning methods that deal with time: models that can learn from user feedback – reinforcement learning – and low power and efficient deep networks based on detailed models of real neurons. The latter also offers direct connections to improving and optimizing brain-connected prosthetics.
Prof Dr Peter Grünwald

Peter Grünwald heads the machine learning group at CWI, and is also part-time full professor at Leiden University. His research interests lie where statistics, computer science and information theory meet: theories of learning from data. He is an expert in the analysis and treatment of small datasets and the requirements for “reproducible” experiments. He famously argued against the statistics used in the case of Luci de B.
